The Positive Sisters is a successful, unique peer project designed and managed by ShivA. The project matches and supports trained HIV-infected migrant women from Sub-Saharan Africa or the Caribbean, ‘Positive Sisters’, with other HIV-infected migrant women. Positive Sisters support migrant women who encounter difficulties in living with HIV in the Netherlands. As a role model, the Positive Sister helps women to break through self-stigma and social isolation and empowers them. Because of the support, women become compliant to their treatment. The holistic approach of the Positive Sisters project makes it distinctive to many other peer projects: “I will live! I take my medication! I continue with my life; HIV is not the end!” are the three pillars of the Positive Sisters Project.

Weet je nog hoe je voor het eerst hoorde dat je hiv hebt? 
Misschien dacht je dat je dit geheim nooit aan iemand zou kunnen vertellen, dat je gauw dood zou gaan, dat je niet vader kunt worden, nooit meer een relatie zou krijgen … Had je toen een goede vriend of familielid die je gesteund heeft? Dan weet je hoe belangrijk dat is. Of moest je het toen helemaal alleen doen? Dan weet je hoe zwaar dat is.  

Since 2015, ShivA has been organizing the so-called I LOVE MY LIFE days: regional meetings organized in cooperation with HIV consulents and that take place in hospitals in various cities throughout the country.

At these meetings, women with HIV are invited to meet each other and there is a program that contributes to taking care of yourself. The hospital is a safe place for most women. You can also meet a Scout or Positive Sister here. Even if you do not need or have a Positive Sister, you can meet others at the meetings, obtain information and enjoy the program and workshops.

De Kloosterdagen zijn een rustpunt voor mensen die in hun leven met Hiv te maken hebben. Het hoeft niet over hiv te gaan, maar het is een veilige ruimte waar leven met hiv vanzelfsprekend is. Op de kloosterdagen heb je tijd om stil te staan bij je eigen leven.
Niet met pasklare antwoorden maar met een programma dat uitnodigt op zoek te gaan naar jouw antwoorden.
